About me

‍ ‍

I worked for a few years in the clothing industry, but my growing dissatisfaction with the negative impact of fast fashion on the environment led me to pursue other professional paths. When my daughter was born, I created a children's clothing studio with a "slow fashion" approach, which sparked my interest in children's illustration. Then, I decided to dedicate myself more and more to developing my own style and my own exclusive characters and prints.

My illustrations reflect my love for art. I am passionate about classical ballet. As a child, I studied ballet, but I couldn't continue dancing because I had scoliosis and underwent thoracic spine fusion surgery. Years later I started dancing again, initially to set an example for my daughter to return to ballet classes, as she had become discouraged after experiencing negative things in dance.

I managed to get my daughter back into dancing and after that, I found myself so involved in ballet again that I don't want to stop. So I started incorporating my love for dance into my illustrations, and my daughter Julia is my greatest inspiration.

To encourage my daughter to continue studying ballet, I created a section called "My Ballet Jounal". This category is dedicated to motivational content for beginner ballerinas of any age. In this section, I try to answer the questions my daughter constantly asks me about ballet, which are the same questions I had as a child and never got answers to. I decided to find the answers to the questions I wish someone had clarified for me when I was 12 years old, and from my own tortuous journey in ballet, much study and research, I compiled everything in this category of posts. I hope this can help someone not to give up on ballet in the face of difficulties.

As a fashion designer, I've always enjoyed studying the history of clothing and I'm passionate about ballet costumes and an avid researcher on the subject. I love browsing through used bookstores in search of old and rare books about ballet. Here you will find some illustrations* I made based on my research into the history of classical ballet.

In the "Classical Repertoire" category, you can read my research on the history of classical ballet costumes. I delve deep into my research on the origin and trajectory of each costume over the years.

Inspired by my research, I create illustrations in my own style, which you can see in my portfolio. You can also visit my shop and purchase some products featuring my illustrations.

Hi!

I'm Nina Oak.

I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, and creativity has always been a part of my life. I always wanted to be an artist, but there were no art courses in my city. So, I studied Fashion Design at the Federal University of Ceará and did postgraduate studies in Art Teaching Methodology at the State University of Ceará. I taught Drawing for several years in the Fashion Design course at the Federal University of Ceará.
